If you are new to Rummy, learn valid combinations before trying to finish a hand quickly. This introduction explains runs, sets and substitute cards; cash-play outcomes remain uncertain even after the rules are familiar.
Review the Whole Hand before Declaring
The thirteen-card format asks you to organise the whole hand into permitted combinations. A declaration must meet the table’s conditions, including its sequence requirements; reducing points alone is not enough.
Three Terms Used at the Table
- Cards in a run: Consecutive ranks in one suit form a sequence. A pure sequence such as 5♥ 6♥ 7♥ has no substituting joker. The natural sequence must be present alongside the other declaration conditions.
- Cards of equal rank: A♠ A♥ A♦ share a rank across distinct suits; inspect permitted set sizes.
- A permitted substitute: A printed or selected wild joker can fill an eligible missing card in a set or ansubstituted sequences, subject to the table’s restrictions.
